AUC Clubs and Activities
American Medical Student Association (AMSA)
We’re a student-governed organization at AUC, offering diverse experiences beyond the medical curriculum. Utilizing our members’ backgrounds, we provide seminars, workshops, and forums. Examples of our events include suturing, EKG clinics, phlebotomy, case studies, diabetes workshops, and more.
American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA)
The American Medical Women’s Association with over 10,000 members, works to advance women’s health and careers in medicine. AMWA was founded by Dr. Bertha Van Hoosen in 1915, at a time when women physicians were an under-represented minority. Over the past 90+ years, AMWA has taken an active role in addressing problems and issues related to women’s health. AUC’s AMWA chapter aims to promote women’s health through semester-long activities. Upcoming events include the mentorship program, a lecture series, and community outreach programs.

Asian Student Medical Association (ASMA)
The Asian Student Medical Association provides fellowship and community service for AUC students interested in Asian culture or of Asian descent. We aim to raise cultural awareness and serve the St. Maarten community, supporting the Tzu Chi Foundation through fundraisers. Join us in creating a successful organization of fellowship, service, and cultural awareness.
Black Medical Student Association (BMSA)
Canadian Medical Students Association (CMSA)
The Canadian Medical Students Association (CMSA) supports Canadian students at AUC, shares Canadian culture, and gives back to the Sint Maarten community. CMSA assists Canadian students in overcoming unique challenges on their medical journey. While primarily composed of Canadian students, CMSA welcomes students of all nationalities. Join us for celebrations of Canadian holidays and fundraising events to experience Canadian culture.
Cardiology Interest Group (CIG)
The Cardiology Interest Group focuses on providing current AUC students with valuable connections to alumni in the field of Cardiology.
Christian Medical and Dental Association (CMDA)
The national organization offers mission opportunities as well as mentor match programs during residency. The AUC chapter provides an opportunity for community service events, ethical and current event symposiums, as well as social events.
Disaster Medicine Interest Group
The Disaster Medicine Interest Group aims to provide support and information for students interested in disaster medicine, including medicine related to infectious disease, biohazards, hurricanes, earthquakes, and other natural and man-made disasters.
Dr. Dale Van Wormer Student Judiciary Committee (SJC)
Members are selected from students in the second to fifth semesters.

Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG)
The Family Medicine Interest Group (FMIG) aims to build a network of family medicine practitioners at AUC, supporting professional development, fostering interest in the field, organizing community service opportunities, and arranging social activities. Affiliated with AAFP, FMIG hosts seminars and workshops to promote understanding and interest in family medicine.
Global Health Club (GHC)
The purpose of the Global Health Club is twofold: to inform medical students of current global health events in relation to the field of medicine, and to inspire and encourage medical students to become well-rounded physicians who are culturally sensitive to their patients.
Jewish Medical Students Association (JMSA)
Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA)
We are a chapter of the National Latino Medical Student Association.
Muslim Student Association (MSA)
The Muslim Students Association (MSA) was established to serve the best interests of Islam, develop Islamic awareness on campus, and educate AUC students on Islamic customs and values. MSA participates in community-based projects and programs to enrich Islamic understanding.

Oncology Interest Group
Oncology Interest Group is an organization where students come together to learn more about the diverse career paths within the field of oncology. Within our meetings, we host many guest speakers who discuss their career paths and share cutting-edge research that they may be working on in their field.
Pathology Interest Group
Pathology Interest Group is an AUC campus organization founded to provides students an opportunity to collaborate & engage in the field of Pathology. We strive to provide a platform to discuss and explore Pathology so that students can have a better idea of the lesser known intricacies of a vast medical specialty. Passionate or curious about Pathology, please join us to learn more!
Pediatric Interest Group (PIG)
The Pediatric Interest Group provides support and information for American University of the Caribbean (AUC) medical students with an interest in pediatric medicine. PIG seeks to contribute to the greater St. Maarten community through service and service-learning activities with a focus on pediatric populations and issues and to increase the number of pediatric-related professional development opportunities at AUC. PIG collaborates with other student organizations in pediatric-related events and programs.
Phi Chi
Phi Chi is AUC’s community service fraternity. It is a national medical fraternity with many chapters throughout the United States. Phi Chi works every semester with a local soup kitchen, an orphanage, and is currently working with an elementary school in Phillipsburg to provide the supplies that they need. Phi Chi hosts events and parties throughout the semester as well. If you are interested in pledging for this fraternity, please come to the Welcome Back party hosted by Phi Chi at the beginning of the semester.
Psychiatry Interest Group (PSYCH)
Radiology & Ultrasound IG (RUIG)
Technological advances have made radiology one of the most fast-paced areas of medicine. The Radiology Interest Group at AUC will serve as a forum in which its members can receive information about the field, gain practical experience and mentoring, and meet to discuss a common interest in the field. For students considering a career in radiology, we aim to provide information to help them. The organization will encourage and facilitate the academic growth of student members by hosting speakers who specialize in various fields of radiology.
Student National Medical Association (SNMA)
is committed to supporting current and future underrepresented minority medical students, addressing the needs of underserved communities, and increasing the number of clinically excellent, culturally competent and socially conscious physicians. SNMA programs are designed to serve the health needs of underserved communities and communities of color. Moreover, SNMA is committed to ensuring that medical education and services are culturally sensitive to the needs of diverse populations. Additionally, it strives to increase the representation of African American, Latino, and other students of color in medical schools.
Sports Medicine Interest Group (SMIG)
The Sports Medicine Interest Group is dedicated to providing information and resources for students interested in the specialty of sports medicine. The group aims to expose students to this dynamic field, which encompasses everything from the primary care setting to the operating room. Their goal is to provide opportunities to strengthen students’ resumes through research and connect students with practicing sports medicine specialists and AUC alumni.
Spouses Organization
This organization is designed to provide fellowship and community involvement to couples and families associated with AUC through its activities, finance, and education committees.
Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN)
The Student Interest Group in Neurology (SIGN) convenes students, alumni, faculty, and affiliated partners who are interested in the fields of adult and child neurology. This group was formed to educate, network, and provide a space for members to share experiences within the vast field of neurology. On campus, SIGN hosts wellness and mental health initiatives and provides students with an opportunity to participate in brain anatomy workshops.
Student Volunteer Committee (SVC)
The Student Volunteer Committee promotes health in underserved communities through outreach, education, and fundraising. SVC leads Community Action Day, fundraises for school supplies via the Back to School Program, and supports breakfast programs at three St. Maarten schools through the St. Maarten Breakfast Club.
Surgery Interest Group
The AUC Surgery Interest Group is an organization devoted to those interested in practicing surgery. We strive to provide a network of current and future physicians, as well as present information to gain insight within the specialty. This organization serves as a platform for building a family of professionals who are all devoted to the betterment of our colleagues and our future patients.
